Japan Textile Federation (JTF) is an organization that was formed in 1970 by Japan's textile industry because of the need to counter an upsurge of demand for regulations on imports of wool and manmade fiber products from overseas, in addition to the U.S. regulations imposed on cotton products. Its activities include requests to the government, the Diet, etc. for textile policies, collection of information and data, exchanges with overseas relevant organizations, and its focus is placed on industry structural issues, trade issues, tax issues, etc. Particularly in consideration of the difficult economic environment surrounding Japan's textile industry in these days, JTF promotes its activities based on "Creation and Reliability" as its basic guideline.
JTF has been working to secure an environment in which Japan’s textile industry is able to sustain its secure position on the global market by launching constructive measures along the Textile Vision, which was formulated in 2007. The environment surrounding the textile industry has undergone major transformations as a result of intensification of borderless competition prompted by quota elimination and expansion of FTA/EPA, and increasing aggravation of global environmental problems, among other factors.
Titled as the “Vision and Challenges of Textile Industry (Technology and sensitivity that realize a leap onto the global stage ―From leading-edge materials to fashion― ), the Textile Vision proposes a variety of measures designed to help Japan’s textile industry to survive and flourish in the new, borderless time of era.
Under these circumstances, JTF will reaffirm its basic guideline of “Creation and Reliability” to aggressively tackle the challenges outlined in the Textile Vision to “create” a “total industry that combines production with marketing” while further strengthening the relationship of trust among its members.
Based on the basic idea of the Textile Vision, JTF will seek to submit constructive policy proposals and unite production and marketing capabilities for participation and action regarding such challenges as “Promotion of Structural Reforms in the Textile Industry”, “Development of New Materials, New Products and New Technology”, “Measures to Deal with Environmental Problems and Product Safety Issuer”, “Strengthening of Information Dispatching Capability and Brand Power”, “Combining Production and Marketing Efforts for Trade Expansion”, “Maintenance and Strengthening of Domestic Business Infrastructure”, “Securing and Nurturing Human Resources”, “Issues on Taxation”, “Constructive Measures toward Internationalization” and other efforts.
The textile industry is a very traditional industry, but it is not a special industry at all. JTF will strongly promote various "offensive" activities toward revitalization, in addition to the establishment of the environment to strengthen the "defensive," with a strong awareness that Japan's textile industry must have international competitiveness that is as strong as that of other industries.
